Wildlife
So much to see
Idube Game Reserve is home to the Big Five—lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo, with thrilling leopard sightings often being the highlight of our visitor’s stays.
Elephants have been known to drink from the suite swimming pools in thirsty weather. The lodge’s welcoming committee—a family of graceful nyala—always fascinate our guests, and we often have warthogs wandering through the gardens too. Monkeys congregate frequently on the lodge’s outskirts, and other species can be seen drinking at Shudulu Dam from the hide.
An extensive array of wildlife can seen throughout Idube’s traversable area and these include giraffe, impalas, zebras, wildebeest, hyaenas and jackals, to name but a few. Both crocodiles and hippos move long distances to find new dams or to move to a river, so it’s always a nice surprise when they are spotted. We also have numerous bird species, many of which can be viewed from your suites.
The sheer biodiversity of the reserve is astounding.
